The other day I was on my computer trying to listen to a video when I discovered the sound was not working. Nothing I tried corrected the problem. Luckily, my husband was sitting at his desk next to mine and he said, “Why don’t you just reboot? That usually does the trick.” So, I rebooted the computer and voila’, there was sound again. It was amazing how that worked and, yet I always seemed to forget that one simple thing. Turn everything off and start over.
Here I am today, thinking about the new year “2025”. The past 5 years have brought about many changes in my life, and it seems as if I have been in a whirlwind. The events of the year 2020 go without saying. It’s the year the world changed. The government imposed a shut down in March of 2020 and God began shutting doors for me. The stirring in my heart that began some time in 2019 was exploding in 2020. The biggest change that occurred took my husband and I to another church after almost 25 years at our previous one. It was extremely difficult to leave what was our family, but our surrender to God’s prompting has taken us to a deeper love for our Lord.
My testimony of surrendering starts at the moment I stepped through the church door threshold of what would be our new church home. It was as if the Holy Spirit slapped my entire body and said, “I’m here. Come in and stay.” And that’s what we did.
Our batteries had begun dying little by little and we weren’t aware of it until we felt our hearts being stirred. God had a bigger plan for us. He was answering prayers from years ago and would prove faithful even through our stubbornness.
The list of changes is too long to capture in one post. Maybe you’ll join me in my journey to share God’s blessings during the trials. I have learned to be intentional about seeking God on a daily basis. So, this year–the year 2025–I choose to reboot. I think this is going to be my word for the year. Reboot. And I’ll do it every day as soon as my feet hit the floor. I will reboot and ask God to continue with his plan for me.
Here goes . . . Reboot!
